The Nexys 4 DDR is a drop-in replacement for a Digilent porous RAM-based Nexys development board. Equipped with Xilinx®Artix™-7 FPGA chip, Nexys 4 DDR is an out-of-the-box digital circuit development platform that enables users to implement many industrial applications in a classroom environment. Compared with earlier versions, the optimized Artix-7 FPGA chip can realize higher performance logic, and can provide more capacity, better performance and richer resources. Equipped with a large high-capacity FPGA chip (Xilinx part number XC7A100T-1CSG324C) and integrated USB, Ethernet and other ports, the Nexys 4 DDR development board enables a variety of designs from theoretical combinatorial circuits to powerful embedded processors . Several built-in peripherals: including an accelerometer, a temperature sensor, MEMS digital microphones, microphones and numerous I/O devices allow the Nexys 4 DDR to satisfy a wide range of design requirements. The most noteworthy improvement of the new generation of Nexys 4 DDR is the upgrade of the original 16 MiB CellularRAM to 128 MiB of DDR2 SDRAM memory. Digilent will provide a hardware description language (VHDL) reference module to encapsulate the complexity of the DDR2 controller and is backward compatible with CellularRAM's asynchronous SRAM interface, but with certain limitations.

Nexys 4 DDR is compatible with Xilinx's latest high-performance Vivado® Design Suite and ISE® Toolkit, which includes ChipScope™ and EDK. Xilinx offers a free version of the WebPACK™ toolkit to help users easily implement their designs at no additional cost.
